The City of Suwanee continues to see growth amidst construction of the highly anticipated Braves SunTrust Park.
The Suwanee city council recently voted to approve $61,960 for the construction of a pier at Sims Lake Park, 4600 Suwanee Dam Road, the AJC reports. The contract to build a covered pier at the lake is awarded to Amaysing Services, Inc. of Gainesville.
The addition to the lake is one of several projects identified in the city’s 2010 park enhancements study.
The 62-acre park includes a 7-acre lake and 1.2 mile looping trail, a pavilion, playground, outdoor classroom and public art.
It was also recently announced that SunTrust Park is holding a construction information open house June 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Board of Commissioners Room on the second floor of 100 Cherokee Street, Marietta, Ga.
Atlanta Braves personnel and Cobb County staff from various departments will be on hand for the open house.
Attendees will have the opportunity to view the seating chart, talk with Atlanta Braves personnel and check out construction progress.
No formal presentation is planned, but county staff from various departments, including Public Safety, Transportation, PARKS, Community Development and Communications, will be available to share information and answer questions, according to a statement released by the county.
No elected officials will be present, the statement said.
The Braves’ new stadium and surrounding development holds a price tag of more than $1 billion. A security filing in March of last year from Braves owners Liberty allots $672 million for SunTrust Park and $452 million for the surrounding mixed-use development.
The Cobb County Board of Commissioners also unanimously approved contracts during its regular meeting April 12 for two bridge projects aimed to benefit pedestrians.
Meanwhile, some Smyrna residents expressed concerns about heavy traffic that could come with the opening of SunTrust Park during a town hall meeting April 14.
A crowd of about 50 people, predominately made up of candidates in the race for Cobb State Court and county staff, attended the meeting hosted by Commissioner Bob Ott, according to the Marietta Daily Journal.
